GMB’s Dr Hilary issues stark warning over supermarket habits ‘why take the risk?’

Hello, come to consult our products !

Good Morning Britain ’s Dr Hilary Jones has warned viewers to be careful in supermarkets and remember to never pick items up and then put them back.

Dr Hilary was discussing with hosts Piers Morgan and Susanna Reid over whether we still need to be careful about potentially spreading coronavirus though touching things.

“Enclosed places are much more likely to transmit the virus, I think there has been evidence that supermarkets have been an area of concern and spreading has occurred,” said Dr Hilary.

“So, following the signs on the floor, the one-way system, it’s important not to have any congestion in the aisles.

“Always wear a mask, sanitise regularly, and I have seen a lot of people touching fruit and putting it back without sanitising in between,” he warned.

Piers asked: “How transmissible do we now think Covid is from touching stuff?”

 Sur

“It’s certainly a possibility,” replied Dr Hilary.

“I don’t think there are a lot of documented cases where it was shown to have happened.”

Piers interjected: “When we started this back in March, April, people were methodically washing and cleaning everything they got from a shop.

“People aren’t doing that any more, because there is a belief that it is no longer as risk as being inside a place with other people for an extended period?”

Dr Hilary replied: “Well, it’s predominantly a respiratory illness, but not completely, and we know the virus does live on hard surfaces for several hours and even days.

“If you touch something that is contaminated, and we have seen some very good adverts where this green stuff is on your hands and you touch a coffee cup and give it to someone else, or you touch food and give it back, it’s still alive.

“And if you put your hand on that and then put your hand on your eyes or your mouth or nose, you have got a possibility of picking up Covid-19.

“We still have to use our common sense, and sanitise frequently, and wash our hands.

“Why take the risk?” he asked.

“If you don’t know for sure, don’t take the risk.”
